Wednesday luxuries
Accompanying Sophia (of the fabulous Kitchen Caravan) on a research trip in Williamsburg, we went to Marlow & Sons for lunch yesterday, which really is a luxury - not because the food is anything short of amazing, but because it is such a calm and cozy place to eat midday. I'd only been at night where it's frantic and packed and the wait is usually an hour, even on a weekday. For lunch, you can take your time, which gives you a whole new appreciation for this very special restaurant.
After a couple pit stops gawking at cheese and chocolate, there was Saltie for dessert. After this second visit, it's safe to say that their ice cream menu is probably one of the best I've encountered, ever. I got the Eton Mess ice cream and Sophia got the Anise Hyssop ice cream sandwich. Heaven. But I won't forget that Salted Caramel ice cream from last time. P.S. their lavender shortbread does not taste like aromatherapy candles.
Later in the evening, I biked with the usual boy to DUMBO for a book launch party, finishing with a late dinner at nearby Superfine with the usual suspects.
The transition from Summer to Fall is kind of drastic. The change in weather is a given, but there's also being back in that ambitious, New York head-space where hustlin' is in full swing again after months of ADD due to travel and good weather - something I need to be eased out of, slowly. Indulging in luxuries midweek is not a bad vehicle for this transition.

think/feel hosts a screening

In honor of my friends over at Remedee, think/feel is hosting our very first event. We want to share with you a special advanced screening of Remedee's pilot program, Reel Lives, which consists of five powerful documentary films made by teenagers from a gang-infested neighborhood in Los Angeles. Here's the trailer:
If you're interested in any aspect of youth empowerment through storytelling and film, you'll want to see this. It has been amazing what Remedee has been able to accomplish from the ground-up in just a year. Please feel free to pass this wide and far to those who are in the area and may be interested, but note that space is limited and a seat at the screening will require a RSVP. We hope to see you there! Here's the info:

ITP goes to MoMA
Starting tomorrow, a new exhibition at MoMA entitled Design and the Elastic Mind will feature a bunch of works that explore the intersection of science and design. Five of these projects belong to ITP alumni, two of which belong to my class of 2007. I'm so proud!
My (slightly biased) favorite is Demetrie's Hypothetical Drawings About the End of the World, which I have witnessed him develop since 2005. The results are 72" x 22" giclee social landscape prints, the content generated by the very particular parsing of Internet searches. Really, these images do not do the drawings justice; you have until May 12 to see them in person.

Playing hooky
Creepy weather for being almost November, but who's complaining? A couple photos of not-doing-work yesterday at Riverside Park by Iluminación luiseño.

The woman in a polka-dotted dress...
...is Andrea making out with Sam in the brand spankin' new New Pornographer's music video featuring Neko Case. The video premiered today on MTV2's Subterranean Blog and was mentioned in Pitchfok's Forkcast as well.
Congratualations to Courtier for being photogenic, good kissers (I presume) AND being kind to animals (they take care of our cat while we're on vacation).
Another Andrea & Sam moment featuring polka-dots if you can't get enough: she wears polka dots and plays the accordeon by Sasha.

This is the house that Will built
I know a lot of architects for not actually being an architect myself. Here are the fruits of my friend Will's labors. Will is the only architect I know who is self-employed, so his first completed boutique design project in downtown San Jose is very exciting. If you ever need anything designed and built, you can e-mail him - willpowe12@gmail.com. (Happy Birthday, Will!)
